Featured in the 80′s Masters of the Universe Franchise, He-Man is the alter ego of Prince Adam. The Sorceress of the Castle of Greyskull on the Planet of Eternia, who when given his sword and saying the words “For the Power of Greyskull”, he would transform from a Prince into the He-Man we came to know. His known nemesis is Skeletor whom He-Man would defend the realm of Eternia and the secrets of Greyskull.

He-Man Unknown Facts:

* The Origin of He-Man came about due to a failed launch of action figures for the film Star Wars, due to time constraints another action figure needed to be created and therefore, He-Man was developed and marketed.

* In 1980 a lawsuit was brought to Mattel claiming He-Man was a replica of Conan the Barbarian, this lawsuit was won by Mattel retaining the rights for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

* Prince Adam had a cowardly pet tiger named Cringer, but when transformed into He-Man, he also transformed Cringer into a brave green tiger known as Battle Cat.

* He-Man began as a mini-comic; with the difference of a shared Power Sword with nemesis Skeletor and that he was a Barbarian.

* The Sorceress who gave He-Man his powers spoke to him telepathically.

* He-Man and the Masters of the Universe began in 1983 (the most commonly known adventures of He-Man).

* In 1987 Masters of the Universe film was produced.

* In 1990, The New Adventures of He-Man television series re-introduced He-Man to a newer generation.

* In 2002, a brand new set of action figures were invented along with He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon series that only lasted for one year.

* 2009, the Masters of the Universe Classics was a release of action figures that brought several forms of He-Man to light. This included, Vikor (an early adaptation of He-Man), and Wun-Dar (Based on the “Wonder Bread” action figure). Regardless of these new releases, Prince Adam remained as the only one who could wield the Power Sword and turn into He-Man.

* He-Man was separated at birth from his twin sister by the evil Hordak, his sister being She-Ra.

The He-Man series did not last long, but his character remains memorable to the kids of the 80′s, so much so that even in 2012, He-Man lives on.

TIME Lists “Speed Racer” as One of the Best Sports Movies of All Time

In what can only be construed as a joke, TIME’s recent Best-of list titled “The ALL-TIME Best Sports Movies” featured the notable-because-it-sucked debacle of a movie, Speed Racer. Even RottenTomatoes was kind to give it a 38%, noting “The Wachowski Brothers have overloaded Speed Racer with headache-inducing special effects, and neglecting to develop a coherent storyline.”

I’ll link to the article begrudgingly simply so people don’t think I’m making this stuff up. We won’t discuss the hundreds of other sports movies (pick any of them, actually) that were more deserving to be on the list. We won’t question whether this action/adventure sci-fi film can really be considered a sports movie.

What we will ask is this: what were you smoking, Richard Corliss?
