With the high rate of lung cancer and other smoking-related health risks, society has been constantly looking for ways to help people stop smoking. While the number of smokers continues to decrease each year, those who are still smoking look for ways to kick the habit as easily and quickly as possible. Many have found the smokeless e-cigarette to be very helpful. For those who have never tried e-cigarettes or would like to learn more about this handy invention have come to the right place. Read below.

What Are E-Cigarettes?

Also known as electronic cigarettes, e-cigarettes are long-shaped battery-operated tubes or devices that offer smokers an alternative to smoking cigarettes or whatever product they smoked. Although they’re similar in appearance to the product the individual is accustomed to smoking (cigarettes, pipes or cigars), the big difference is that they don’t produce the same harmful smoke, although they do still deliver nicotine (the active drug in tobacco).

E-cigarettes were invented in China in 2003 but didn’t make their way into the United States until 2007. Some look exactly like cigarettes, while some look more like ballpoint pens. The majority of electronic cigarettes are reusable, although some are disposable.

How Do E-Cigarettes Work?

While e-cigarettes don’t release smoke, they provide users with a sensation similar to inhaling smoke when smoking their tobacco products. When the user sucks on the e-cigarette, the sensor-activated heating element vaporizes a liquid solution into the mouthpiece of e-cigarette. The e-cigarette has an LED to indicate that the user inhaled and the product is working correctly. The liquid used in the e-cigarettes is offered in different flavors. Some can be turned on and off with a button.

In addition to providing the user with the inhaling sensation, e-cigarettes also provide them with the feeling of “holding a cigarette”, which is also part of the addiction (having the actual cigarette in their hands). Since it’s been said that smoking is part physical and part psychological, the e-cigarette appears to cover both areas. According to BBC News, researchers at the University of Auckland in New Zealand have indicated that e-cigarettes are as effective for quitting smoking as the smoking patch. E-cigarettes have become popular because they may aid in quitting smoking and don’t have the same health risks as cigarettes. Additionally, cigarette smoke has more than 4,000 chemicals, some which may be harmful, according to Medical News Today.

What Are the Mechanics of E-Cigarettes?

E-cigarettes may look like regular cigarettes but the inside is quite different. Their mechanics consist of three main parts.

• Mouthpiece – This piece, also known as the cartridge, is where the e-juice is stored. The juice may be in hundreds of flavors. The mouthpiece is attached to the end of a tube.

• Atomizer – This is the heating element that, while warming the liquid, creates the vapor that’s breathed in when the user inhales. These can last up to six months before they need to be replaced.

• Battery – The battery, which is usually rechargeable, is what powers the atomizer or heating element. This is the largest part of the e-charge, and it’s lifespan depends on how much it’s used.
