SEO for forex businesses is in a lot ways similar to search engine optimization (SEO) for any online business, with a few exceptions.

Here are eight tips that will get you started in improving your search rankings online. See if they don’t help.

1. Wordstream

Wordstream offers a free “keyword tool” for both SEO and pay-per-click (PPC). But to get a jump on what the Google and Bing search bots look for in moving up your SERPs (search engine results pages), here are some key keywords: forex, trading forex, online forex, online forex trading, and forex currency.

2. LinkedIn

Check out groups on LinkedIn using the keywords “SEO” and “Forex.” One of particular note is the “SEO Forex Directory,” open to any individual from financially independent traders to small investors.

3. Link building

Successful forex and trading websites rely on quality link building and relevant content creation to dominate the search engine results pages. Look for third-party services that can provide this assistance without burning a hole in your budget.

4. Understand the lexicon

Financial markets have a highly specialized lexicon and standard operating procedures that players in that space need to learn and apply. They attract a special kind of executive and demand a particular kind of SEO company that understands the world of Spot, Forward, Swap, Future, and _Option so, they can dominate the online environment.

5. Understand Google’s Hummingbird algo

While Google’s Panda and Penguin updates moved the algo needle somewhat, Hummingbird is actually replacing the old with something entirely new. The search results we worked with in the past reflected the matching combination of keywords that a search phrase contained, rather than the true meaning of the sentence itself.

Search results produced by Hummingbird will exemplify the full semantic meaning of longer search phrases (what SEO professionals used to refer to as “long-tail”), and should in theory produce more accurate results.

6. Long-tail strategy

To get a handle on semantic search, select keywords that are niche and ask questions versus just being a “string” of keywords. These are called long-tail searches, because they are longer and add more meaning to the search.

Moreover, this strategy is more effective because it yields higher conversion in revealing what the forex buyer is really looking for.

7. Choosing an effective domain name

Choosing an effective domain name is one of the fundamental elements of a good SEO strategy. Unfortunately, most webmasters tend to ignore this fact. Having a good domain name plays an integral part in your website’s SEO page rankings if they are memorable and tells the forex buyer what your company is known for.

8. Age of domains

The age of a domain influences your site’s rankings on Google and other search engines. The older a domain is, the higher the trust rankings, which eventually reflects on your search rankings.
