The US economy is more deeply affected by sports than most realize. Professional football, baseball, and basketball are magnets for dollars spent within and around the cities that have teams. A lockout can have a tremendous impact on more than just the players and teams. Small businesses thrive based upon activity during sports seasons. When a sport such as football fails to deliver, these businesses can be hurt more than the teams and players themselves.
Once the final player was drafted yesterday, the NFL officially reinstated the lockout. Now everyone has to wait for the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to rule on the NFL’s appeal of a lower-court ruling that lifted the lockout last week.
