One of NASA’s crafts, the Cassini, is currently orbiting Saturn and part of its mission involves probing the moons. All sixty-one of them. While taking a look at Mimas the probe measured temperature differences across is surface and came back with this distinct pattern.

Another interesting fact about Mimas, it has a “scar” on its surface called the Herschel Crater that makes it resemble the Death Star from Star Wars. I wonder what other 1980s popculture references are “Easter Egged” in the other moons of Saturn. I’d love to see some Smurfs or Fraggles show up.
